Choosing the right type of engine oil for your car is quite important. Many people believe that fully synthetic oil is the best, so they opt for it in their vehicles.
In fact, opting for fully synthetic motor oil isn’t always the best choice. Because fully synthetic oils offer superior low‑temperature fluidity, their viscosity is typically lower than that of semi‑synthetic or mineral oils. For older vehicles or those with engines that have undergone major overhauls, wear on the pistons or imprecise reassembly after an overhaul can result in relatively large clearances between the pistons and cylinder walls. Using a low‑viscosity fully synthetic oil may compromise the engine’s sealing performance, increasing the likelihood of oil burning or blow-by.
